You might see snakes showing up in your backyard. This reptile makes the skin of many crawl, and there are some poisonous ones out there that you need to be careful of. If you would rather not see snakes near your home, there are a few things that you can do to discourage them from showing their heads.
The first thing to do is remove their food source. Since snakes mostly feed on mice and other small animals, getting rid of your mice might get rid of your snakes. Of course, in a rural setting, this might be near impossible, but using traps and pesticides might cull the population to a level that is low enough that snakes won’t be attracted.
Another method for discouraging snakes from coming near your home is to remove hiding places they could use. By keeping your grass cut short and cutting down shrubbery and moving rocks out of the way, snakes might find that they will need to cross large open areas to reach your home. Doing these things could lower the chances of finding snakes near your home drastically.
