No homeowner wants to share their home with insects, especially spiders. Although it is almost impossible to keep a home 100% free of spiders, there are some things that you can do to minimize the number of them.
The most important thing is to keep your home clean. Regular dusting and vacuuming are not only good to keep your home free of dust and dirt, but also will allow you to clean away spider webs that are forming. Make sure to get the unseen areas of your home. Vacuum the edges of rooms, under the couch and bed, and behind dressers. Also, look up and clean webs that are forming in corners of the room by the ceiling.
Sealing cracks and crevices is helpful to reduce the number of spiders entering your home. Make sure window screens are in good condition and fill gaps.
Natural repellents such as peppermint oil, citrus, cinnamon, or vinegar can be used. Spiders highly dislike the smell of them.
Since spiders do benefit the environment, if you want to catch and release them, there are “spider catcher” tools that gently vacuum the spiders up and allow you to release them outside.
