Puppy-proofing your home is important. It helps keep your puppy safe and out of trouble, and it helps keep you less frustrated.

Puppies are very curious, and they do not know what is harmful or not to them, and what is okay to chew or not. It is your job to make sure they don’t chew on or swallow anything they should not. Remove small items they can reach that may be a choking hazard. Do not let them have access to wires or curtain cords.

Store away chemicals safely in a cabinet that your puppy cannot open. Consider getting childproof locks on cabinets within reach. Also, make sure your puppy does not have access to plants that can be poisonous to them. Store away shoes and other valuable objects that you don’t want teeth marks in.

Puppies have accidents. Be prepared to clean up any messes right away. Have on hand a good stain and odor remover for your carpet. And if you have laminate or hard wood, be sure to blot up any bodily fluid immediately so nothing seeps into the cracks.
