Every year, thousands of fires are started in homes because of candles. How can you be safe while using candles to create your cozy atmosphere?
First of all, it is recommended to trim the wick of your candle to ¼” before lighting it so the flame does not get too big. Dispose of the match properly. Never throw a warm match into the trash bin where it could ignite something. Run it under water, or allow it to cool completely on a heat-resistant surface.
Never leave a burning candle unattended. If a candle is lit, someone should be in the room, awake. Many fires are started in the bedroom due to people falling asleep with them burning. Also, make sure there is no breeze from a window or fan to blow the flame on the candle. The candle should be on a solid surface, unable to be knocked over by a kid or pet. And make sure the candle is not next to anything that can catch fire. Lastly, do not burn a candle to its very end, as that can be a fire hazard.
